On Saturday and Sunday, September 24th and 25th, The Order of Architects - Flemish Council is organising a 12th edition of the open-house weekend 'My House My Architect’.

De Bouwerij Architects is participating with a project in Eke – Nazareth.

The project in Eke is an open, practical residence with an industrial touch. The house, located on a site in the second construction zone, was designed to allow the living, work and leisure of residents to flow together.

In its realization, the property unfolds with a split level concept, where the large living area / kitchen serves as a pivot point between the working and sleeping areas on the one hand, and the green outside space, on the other hand.

The views provide a sense of spatial relationship and create, together with the extended use of materials, a uniformity that leads to a spontaneous restful feeling.
The office tunnel with wall-to-wall glass sections on both sides, is the first point of contact when entering the house.
From here, both the meeting room as well as the central living area are easily accessible.

The meeting rooms are situated half a level below ground level, which creates a more intimate, focused atmosphere and contrasts with the living space, where just that increase of the space and its orientation provide a spaciousness with enough privacy while people look out across country fields.

The master bedroom with dressing room, bathroom and sauna are to be found on the uppermost, open plateau. This space, which is oriented to the north, is provided with a light strip over the entire width, which accentuates the open spaciousness.
The other side of the building accommodates four play rooms / nurseries.
The split-level effect makes visual contact possible between the sleeping compartments of parents and children.

The façades in black bonded brick, together with the austere aluminium exterior joinery, provide a conceptual translation of the internal programme.

During ‘My House My Architect’ visitors are given the chance to visit the house gratis and to have chat with the residents / architect. This way the (re)builder gains an impression of the work and skill of the architect; after all, the architect is an essential ‘brick’ in the building process.

The organization does request advance registration on the registration page of ‘My House My Architect’.
